John Jamison is a multi-disciplinary designer, artist, and award-winning cidermaker with a rich tapestry of experiences that blend creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation.
Growing up in Charlottesville, VA, John discovered his passion for photography, drums, and design early on. He pursued a BA in Studio Arts from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, where he honed his artistic skills. After graduation, he worked as a fabricator and musician, further enriching his creative repertoire.
John's journey then took him to Brooklyn, NY, where he enrolled in the Masters in Industrial Design program at Pratt Institute. This pivotal experience opened doors to the Global Innovation Design program, allowing him to study at prestigious institutions such as Keio University, the Royal College of Art, and Imperial College London. These international experiences broadened his design perspective and enhanced his skill set.
After completing his studies, John returned to Charleston, SC, where he founded Ship’s Wheel Hard Cider, the city’s first cidery and urban winery. To refine his cider-making craft, he attended a foundational class by Washington State University and the Cider Institute of North America. Under his leadership, Ship’s Wheel has achieved full state distribution with placements in major retailers like Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, and Lowes Foods. John's ciders have earned numerous accolades, including a gold medal from the SC State Wine Competition and a silver from the NY International Cider Competition.
Throughout his travels and career, John has maintained an active artistic practice, with studio spaces at Redux Center for Contemporary Art and Studio Union in Charleston. In 2023, he relocated to Richmond, VA, to reconnect with his roots and continue his creative journey.
Today, John continues to develop new recipes and branding elements for Ship’s Wheel while passionately pursuing his artistic endeavors. He has developed a love for abstract stone carving and constantly explores new techniques in flavor experimentation. Cooking and sharing meals with others remains one of his greatest joys.
